Yesterday my first 2 - critical - comments on Boing Boing (here my yesterday's blog entry about the concerning article) were deleted. They even banned my account. My comments were ironic or sarcastic, but in no way abusive. At first I wanted to write them anonymous or under a new account and ask for clarification. They have extreme viewpoints, champion free speech, individual liberties, fight censorship and cannot deal with a little sarcasm?
But then I made a little research at Google and learned that acting like that is a common practice of them for years. I found a lot of entries with 100s of people complaining about having written comments just not agreeing with BB's viewpoint and being deleted. In 2008 they even removed at once more than 100 comments related to one topic, to *Violet Blue*, the San Francisco Chronicle sex columnist, without any notification and explanation.
I know that such a big platform like BB must have commentary guidelines to protect against trolls, spam and indignities and that sometimes it's necessary to expel someone from your house.
But - regarding their *noble* goals they claim to fight for - their acting on that topic is poor Hypocrisy and I don't have any intention to communicate with them any more. Boing Boing is dead for me now.
